Does your child love to paint? Have you tried watercolor-resist paintings before? Are you ready to combine beautiful Autumn leaves with colorful works of art?? Then this Autumn leaf watercolor-resist painting project is for you!

To make your own, you will need a sheet of thick paper, some crayons, watercolor paints and a paint brush. Begin by layering some leaves underneath the paper, and invite your child over to create leaf rubbings with the crayons. We found that our Melissa & Doug crayons are ideal for this because they are free from paper wrappers and the flat edges make leaf rubbings easy! Your child may want to experiment with several different colors on the page.

Next, it’s time to paint! Using watercolor paints, encourage your child to paint on top of their leaf rubbing design. My daughter was quite surprised to see what happened when the watercolor paint came into contact with the crayon! I love how she was so happy to try a new painting technique, and thoroughly enjoyed the process!

These watercolor-resist paintings could easily be made into cards, bookmarks, or other handmade gifts. They could also be framed and put on display in your home!

Don’t be surprised if your child asks to make several of these paintings. My daughter has made five… and counting!

Have fun!!

great post! Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great project for both parents and grandparents to share with the children and opens up a creative door for other projects!
