September 28, 2012 at 11:17 am 1 comment

Admit it: we’ve all had fabulous dance parties with our little ones. Ones where we bang on tabletops, clank on instruments, or just turn the radio up and stomp around the living room. But did you know that all this boogie-down fun also has wonderful educational benefits for your child?

The power of music in your child’s life goes far beyond entertainment. Experimentation with volume, rhythm, pitch, tone, movement, and repetition is a terrific way to build key skills such as fine motor, gross motor, patterning, matching, and much more! In celebration of this wonderful play activity, we decided to feature some music-related posts this week on the Melissa & Doug blog. In case you missed any, here’s a brief summary:

In this Quick Tip, we encourage you to enjoy exploring music with your family in all the forms it can take: whistling with a blade of grass, blowing across an open bottle top, and even banging on pots and pans! Now, get dancing!

Rockin’ Out with the Recorder

Now that we’ve explored the music all around us, we can focus on a few of its educational elements. Children need to learn with educational toys, as well as those that make children learn important things and utilis like learning to play an instrument, whether a flute, drum etc.
